After completing this module, students will be able to calculate the magnetic force on moving charges and current-carrying wires and the torque on a current loop placed into a uniform magnetic field. They will be able to calculate the magnetic field produced by current carrying wires in simple geometric configurations using Ampere's law and the Biot-Savart Law. Students will have been introduced to diamagnetic, paramagnetic, and ferromagnetic materials and to the Hall effect.
